Course Description:
What is an XTERRA Scramble? XTERRA is an adventure for runners ... and it ain't your average 10K or 5K!
It's dirty, dusty, crooked, muddy and gutsy.
Come join in the fun on the beautiful and challenging trails of Mount Tamalpais State Park and the
Muir Woods National Park. The race will consist of both a 5K (3.1-mile) and 12K (7.4-mile) run. The start of the 12K
race begins with a series of switch backs on Heather Cutoff then turns north on the Coastal Fire
Road. The course peaks near the top of the Cardiac and the famous Dipsea Trail. Runners then turn east
on the Dipsea and head downhill toward Muir Woods and then merge on the Deer Park Fire Road. The course
then crosses Muir Woods Road on to the Redwood Creek Trail. Runners cross over four wooden bridge and
jumps over Redwood Creek before returning to Santos Meadows and finish.
The 5K run/walk will turn left at the Mile 1 marker and head down the Coastal Trail to the turnaround
point at the intersection of Muir Woods Road. Participants then back track along Heather Cutoff to finish.
Check out the 12K course on MotionBased's new Map Player. Click on the map above then look for
the "PLAYER" button (vs "Map Player") on the upper right side of the page. Please note that the actual
distance of the course will be adjusted to reflect 12 kilometers.
